What is the Electronic Prescription Service and why is it being introduced?
We have now launched the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS).
Under the new system, in the majority of cases, we will no longer be issuing paper prescriptions but will be sending them electronically to your preferred pharmacy. EPS makes the issuing of medication safer, more secure and much more convenient.
How does it work?
Your doctor, nurse, reception or a member of pharmacy staff will ask you to nominate the chemist which is most convenient for you. When you ask for a prescription it will be sent direct to your chosen pharmacy. Your pharmacy will still need a little time to process the prescription - just as they do now.
Can I choose a different pharmacy for one particular prescription?
Yes - just mention this at the time.
Can I change which pharmacy I use?
Yes - it is your choice you can change your pharmacy at any time. Speak to either a member of surgery staff or your pharmacy if you would like to change.
Is my personal information safe?
Yes - we will be using the secure NHS network to send your prescription. Only authorised people can see it. Electronic prescriptions cannot be lost or altered.
How do I order repeat prescriptions?
There is no change in the way that you order repeat prescriptions.
Is this service only being offered locally?
No - this is part of a national programme to improve the NHS prescription service and it is now being launched across the city.
