Message from Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital

The pathology department located at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, which tests blood and other samples from GP practices across Norfolk and Waveney, has been experiencing delays since 29th July 2025, due to a change in IT system. Systems are now fully up and running. However, disruption caused by the digital switch-over is leading to delayed reporting of some non-urgent results to GP practices.

If you are waiting for the results of a test you have had, you may have to wait longer than normal for this to be reported. Please bear this in mind if chasing routine samples but do contact the practice if you have an urgent or worsening problem. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused by these delays. The pathology and IT teams are working hard to rectify the issues and deal with the backlog of testing

Summary Care Record

Lakenham Surgery is a summary care record (SCR) practice. The NHS is currently modernising the way that patients health information is both stored and managed with part of this process being the introduction of summary care records (SCR).

The SCR is a secure electronic summary of your key health information and will improve the quality of healthcare delivered to you in the NHS, especially in urgent and unscheduled care situations (like A&E or out of hours care) where often little, or no, patient information would be available to guide health care professionals.

Opt in/out

Clinicians who are treating you will be able to access those parts of your records that they are allowed to see whenever they need it to provide you with care. If you are happy for a summary care record to be created, you don’t need to do anything; your records will automatically become part of the summary care record. If not, you can opt out at any time.
